It's a bird, it's a plane, No it's a Mustang Shelby Cobra GT-500!

Why Mustangs are the new kings of the road

In 2005 Ford presented a new model of Mustang. This new model was retro-designed, to resemble the original Mustangs in the late 60's and early 70's that have become a legend. Now they are reborn in the new, stylish Mustangs that we see all over the road today. So what is so great about these new Mustangs?

First of all, they look great! The new look fused with the old classic styling made these new Mustangs very popular. Not only do they look great on the outside, but their interiors are beautiful. There are several styles available now, and each has it's own set of choices for the interior package, seating, stereo, and so-on. They even come with a customizable dashboard display, meaning you can choose from several colors for the lighting on your dashboard, so at night you can have variants of red for your dashboard lighting, or purple, green, whatever strikes your fancy.

Mustangs come available in two basic versions, a V-6 model, which is great for just having that Mustang look parked in your garage, or the Mustang GT, with a V-8 and various options for rims, and some interior upgrade packages also exist, not to mention the optional racing stripes. The Mustang GT is noticably more powerful than it's base-model counterpart, with a good solid engine roar, dual exhaust, and around 300 or so horse power.

But that is not the end of the line- Ford had decided that, given the Mustang's success, they needed to introduce a few other versions of the car as well, and there is one version that I will talk about, the Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT-500. This is a Mustang GT with a supercharged engine, in addition to some other engine modifications, that gets about 500 HP and 500 Foot Pounds of Torque. What does that mean? That means that the engine is able to generate a lot more power immediately. The GT-500 can produce the same results in 1st gear that it would take the base-model Mustang 3rd gear to reach. And yes, you are likely to have to buy some tweezers if you want to own one of these, as pulling your hair out of the headrest will be a daily task.

In addition to the engine modifications of the Mustang Shelby Cobra GT-500, there are some unique exterior upgrades to that model as well. The front grille and spoiler are completely different from other Mustangs, giving the GT-500 a "BadBoy" profile, just mean looking. They also have the Cobra logos on the front and sides, the wheels are replaced with 18 inch alloy rims, very nice, and air vents in the hood.

But the pricing is the bad news, not to mention the availability. GT-500's are expensive, usually sold for around $60,000 or $70,000. They are rare, usually only enough are made to sell one per Ford dealership in the country. The Ford Mustang GT is usually priced at around $35,000, and the base model Mustang is priced at around $20,000. Those prices may or may not take a die in light of the gasoline costs, but at over 20mpg for the base model, that is not too bad for a ride so appealing.

There are options for those of us that want a more pleasing look to our Mustang, like getting an after market body kit, and engine upgrades, but I am just hoping to get that Mustang GT off my wall and into my garage!
